The underworld sequences were filmed in Iceland in June, during the eerie all-day light of the midnight sun, in desolate terrain under windy and rainy conditions.
Nolan specifically chose Iceland to represent Hades because its cold, remote landscape felt as far as possible from Odysseus’s Mediterranean home.
